Help decoding the color of your stools:
- Dark red or black tar colored stools can indicate bleeding from higher up in your bowels. You should talk to your doctor immediately as this can be a sign of bowel cancer.
- Tiny bit of bright red in the stool can indicate fresh blood from anal tears or piles.
- Medium brown stools are normal and healthy!
- Grayish or light tan colored stools can indicate insufficient bile flow or liver congestion (bile gives stools their brown color).
